Dan Kioko is an urban planner with an undergraduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Nairobi and an MSc in Urban Management from Technische Universität Berlin. With five years of urban planning experience in both private and public sectors, he brings broad knowledge of wicked urban problems, particularly from a Global South perspective. Planner Kioko’s prowess and dedication are further evidenced by the DAAD scholarship award, which fully supported his postgraduate studies in Germany.
He excels in interrogating the role of urban planning in infrastructure and service delivery, particularly water services, as demonstrated in his thesis, “How urban planning practices influence water supply provision: A case of Parklands in Nairobi, Kenya.” The paper was also unique in highlighting the effects of corruption in urban planning.
Given his academic qualifications and vast experience, Dan Kioko has been contracted to conduct an extensive literature review for SMUS’ Campus theme: ec(h)otoning.
