Prof. Dr. Ariane Sept is a Professor for Spatial Sociology and Head of Research Unit Sociology at Institute of Spatial Planning at the Technical University Vienna (TU Wien), Austria. Before this, she was a Professor for Participative Spatial Development and Community Work at University of Applied Sciences Munich, Germany. As a postdoctoral researcher, she worked at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space until 2022.
Ariane Sept studied Urban and Regional Planning in Germany and Italy. She holds a Dipl.-Ing. from TU Berlin and got her PhD in sociology as part of the graduate program “Innovation Society Today,” also at the TU Berlin. Her research focuses on sustainable urban, regional, and rural development, socio-spatial disparities, social innovations, and socio-ecological transformation from a social science perspective. She is particularly interested in methods of spatial social research and issues of transdisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity.
